ANZ Picket Fence

ANZ Picket Fence

These posts are currently up in the main shopping center in Devonport, Auckland New Zealand and are lining the rail by the ramp going up to the ANZ branch. They were painted by local children and adults, and were put up during the 2014 Devonport Arts Festival.

They are currently one of the few remaining pieces of work from that art festival still up – along with two pieces of street art – which isn’t surprising given that the rest was made of wool (i.e. wool graffiti) or paper/cardboard. Given that they are actually wooden picket fencing posts they are pretty much the only things that could survive this long. The arts festival had left up some of the wool graffiti on the posts/poles down one side of the main shopping area from a previous year’s festival for about a year and unfortunately as nice as it was when it was first put up by the time they finally got around to taking them again they were starting to look really grotty and weathered.

One mildly interesting thing I’ve found reading the various websites about the festival is that these posts were supposed to have been moved over to the Devonport Community Center “soon” after the 2014 Devonport Arts Festival. Given that the festival happened well over two years ago by now it does look as if they are staying put rather than being moved unless they decide to move them before the 2017 festival.
