The Flower Girl Sculpture

19th December 2016

The Flower Girl Sculpture

This statue is a tribute to Nicole Mace who had a flower cart on the same spot the statue currently is placed and who was killed when knocked down by a car while crossing Ponsonby Road Auckland, New Zealand on the 3rd May 2005. It was mad by her father artist David Kayrouz and is, apparently, based upon a tattoo that Nicole had.

The statue is usually dressed or decorated with scarfs, plastic flowers, and necklaces that always look clean, tidy and new. It’s in the area next to the supermarket’s car park and is directly opposite the entrance to the current gym in Devonport.

I have included a photo of the plaque on the rock part of the statue, which says:

“Gifted to the community of Devonport by family and friends of Nicole who ran a flower barrow here and shared her passion for life with all who came by."
